. >> good to be here. >> let's start off with the impact sandy could have on this election. we know both campaigns suspended activities the past few days. president obama will be on the ground in new jersey tomorrow. mitt romney we saw there taking food donations in ohio. any fallout from this? >> what it does is affect their travel schedule. they're going about seven battleground states. now they have to make real clear decisions which they're going to emphasize and which they're going to discard. so they don't have the luxury of scotching around going around the country with so many different states. they'll have to be much more precise about which time and which place they're going to concentrate on. >> let's talk about some of those key battleground states. of course, we know ohio has been almost no. 1 on the list. what is going on there that could impact the outcome of this election? >> you have a possible scenario, everybody says and i've said it repeatedly and i'll say it again, no republican has been elected without ohio and since 1960 when john kennedy lost no democrat has won w
has to close the male gap as well. both candidates are struggling, president obama is doing a little bit better with female voters and mitt romney is doing better with male voters. >> we have about 30 seconds left. but i want to talk about the gender gap quickly. why do you think romney has made better strides in terms of closing that gap recently? >> again, you expect some of these things to close, but he hasn't been able to stand up to the more extreme views in his party. not just issues of abortion, but equal pay. in rural counties, women are more likely to be the bread winner in the house. equal pay is a kitchen table issue. i think mr. romney had a great chance to show leadership there and hasn't and women noticed that. >> ford? >> mitt romney is closing that gap because women have suffered more economically under the obama administration than men. for that reason, the economy is the top issue and mitt romney is leading virginia on the issue of the economy and who will be a stronger leader. definitely we're going to find out on election day. >> everyone needs to get out and vote
